WWHD reports usually focus on film and television actors' silly political and social spouting. However today, we will make an exception in order to bring to you our take on some recent famous musical artists shenanigans.

Last week, Bono donned a cap, gown, and trademark Ridiculous Sunglasses to present his commencement speech to the 2004 graduating class of the University of Pennsylvania—with *gasp*--nary a cuss! "The FCC has taught me a lesson," says Bono, remembering the day the Federal Communications Commission's declared his use of a certain word to be 'indecent and profane' on last year's Golden Globe's ceremony which was shown live on television.

The aging Euro-Rocker DID wear his political heart on his sleeve, though...surprised?

Ack. Neither were we
.

University of Pennsylvania President Judith Rodin presented Bono with an honorary doctor of laws. He then wasted no time in rolling up his sleeves and waxing political.

He pleaded the 2004 graduating class to "live up to the ideals" of America, and have faith that no problem isn't too big to fix. He then (almost tearfully) recalled his visit in 1985 to a famined Ethiopia. At the time, Bono says, he was "a rock star with a cause."

Fuck...is he still riding that damned wave?? Get over it, babe...the 80's are over! Besides, we've been watching Africa decline since waaay before Abbott and Costello safari-ed there back in the day.

Isn't this guy 44 now? WWHD highly recommends he turn his attention to more middle aged-stuff...like planning your funeral, pricing mini-vans and dividing your time between Easy Listening and Metamucil.

But noooo!

He wants to whine that America should take them [Africa] on and fight the unfair trade rules and huge debt, that's causing horrendously poverished people, epidemic, and death. He explained that it would be "cheaper than the Marshall Plan in Europe. It's cheaper than fighting wave after wave of terrorism's new recruits. We have the know-how. We have the cash. We have the lifesaving drugs. But do we have the will?"

Hey Bono! How about encouraging these kids--about to encroach upon the Real World--to get in touch with the problems of their OWN country, huh?

Oh, how refreshing that would be, coming from him. However, we at WWHD shall not hold our collective breath.
